Hi, I'm Lumia.
I'm a strategist. I help founders and creatives scale their businesses to seven figures, on their own terms.
I've spent the last fifteen years inside creative and education businesses, mostly as a co-founder or strategic partner. In that time I've helped multiple companies scale from idea to seven figures and beyond. I've built online audiences of millions of followers and subscribers, grown mailing lists past 35,000, and ranked partners at #1 on Google in competitive niches. On the paid side, I've personally managed over $3M in Meta ad spend with consistently high returns. But I work organic-first, because the audiences I build are real ones, and the businesses I build don't depend on ad spend to function.
The thread through all of it is a belief that you can build a serious business without performing a version of yourself you don't recognise. When your work, your message, and your offer are in real alignment, the hard sell stops being necessary. The right people see the value because the value is actually there.
Before strategy
Before strategy, I was a musician. I performed in more than eighty countries, played on BBC Radio 2, and toured for over a decade. That work taught me how to build an audience from nothing, how to read a room, and how to keep going when the conditions are unforgiving. It also showed me how the creative industry can chew people up. Most of my consulting career has been spent helping people in those industries build something more sustainable instead.
How I work
The work is part strategy, part pattern-spotting, part loving mirror. We start by getting honest about what you're really building, who it's actually for, and what success looks like for you specifically. From there we shape the structure, the offers, the marketing, and the team around that foundation. I'm currently training in psychotherapy alongside my consulting practice, because the inner work and the business work are connected, and I want my practice to reflect that.
Where I am now
I live in Edinburgh with my partner Diana and our dog Bjorn. I'm a TED Vanguard scholar and a member of the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce. Outside consulting, I write, compose, perform improv, and I'm slowly building out the book version of Talent Archaeology.
“Lumia is a fiercely intelligent, creative, and empathic person whose ideas are redefining the future of entrepreneurship in music and creativity. Since 2019, I have had the pleasure of working alongside Lumia Yates, developing a business within the arts and education sectors. Our business serves musicians, with particular emphasis on songwriters and recording artists, educating them in the craft and business of the music industry. As a leading course developer, speaker, and author in my field, I can honestly say that the vision Lumia has breathed into our shared endeavors and the integrity and clarity with which they operate is what sets us apart as a business. It is their constant faith, careful direction, and relentless grit that continues to expand our growth, impact, and personal satisfaction in what we do and who we are.”

“Lumia is one of the most intelligent, heart-centered entrepreneurs & musicians that I know. She played an important role in helping scale Modern Musician to a 7-figure business... we've experienced 8x growth since we started working together. I really respect her ability to hold space and provide true perspective, even when it means having uncomfortable (but important) conversations. She’s a true team leader and I trust her completely. I couldn't recommend her highly enough, and I'm so excited to continue to grow together.”
Michael Walker - Musician & Founder of Modern Musician
